January first is a new beginning. You know when something is up with your computer or phone and you end up shutting it down and restarting it? And somehow, that magically works. I feel like New Year’s is a bit like that reboot. Whatever was, was. It is all about what will be now. My son and I rang in the new year with a toast (champagne for me, lime Bubly for him) and then this morning was a new year. We began the day with French Toast for breakfast and I put the black-eyed peas and ham in the crockpot (with the leftover champagne!). We got dressed and he played with his snap circuits, we did a craft with sequins (which are now EVERYWHERE in my living room), he drew, I made homemade pasta sauce and roasted Brussels sprouts, I read, and I crocheted. It was a perfect day. The only cleaning I did was dishes from the cooking and giving my son a bath. (The nice thing about having a holiday on a Tuesday is I just did laundry and cleaned on the weekend!)
Tomorrow is back to civilization, but I feel rested in a way I haven’t in months. I know it is just a mental shift, but it is a welcome one.
